South Hill
Sola Landscape Design collaborated with the Gillespies team on the design aspect of the South Hill project. The primary objective of the design is to restore and rehabilitate the local ecosystem, implementing measures that result in a net increase in biodiversity. The design strategy involves the establishment of stepping stones for wildlife, integrating living roofs and green spaces to create local habitats and interconnected green corridors that link to the broader landscape. Rainwater capture systems will be employed to support plant growth, with species carefully selected for their ability to withstand coastal conditions and drought. In addition to their involvement in the South Hill project, Sola Landscape Design is also engaged in the revitalization of the neighboring public play park. Collaborating with Gillespies, they have developed a play competition document as part of a public consultation process, aiming to engage children under 12 years old in learning about their environment and contributing to the design of their ideal park. The Joint Development Committee (JDC) encouraged children to participate, either individually or as part of their school, in the redesign of the local South Hill park. SOLA Landscape Design together with Gillespies has made downloadable documents and a map available on the JDC website to facilitate this involvement.
